In the English Course, instruction is given in the English Language and Literature, Psychology, Pedagogy and Hygiene; the Vernacular Course includes instruction in the Chinese Classics, History and Composition, in Geography and Arithmetic, and in methods of teaching.
Students may be admitted to these Classes although not ac- tually engaged in the Teaching Profession, but no Student may join the "English" course unless he has passed the Matriculation or Senior Local Examination of the Hong Kong University, or an equivalent examination; for admission to the Vernacular course a good general knowledge of the Chinese Classics is essential. No student may proceed to a Second or a Third Year Class till the previous examination has been passed, with the following excep- tions,-
(a) Candidates who have passed the Intermediate Exam- ination in Arts at the Hong Kong University, or an equivalent examination, may be exempted from the First Year "English" Teachers' Class at the Technical Institute.
(b) University Graduates in Arts or Science may be re- cognised by the Education Department, Hong Kong. as "Passed Student Teachers" after attending the Third Year Course ("English" Teachers' Class) in Pedagogy at the Technical Institute, and passing the examina- tion in that subject, and also an Examination in Prac- tical Teaching.
No student may be admitted to the Annual Examination un- less he has attended not less than 75% of the Lectures held, in his course, during the year.
In all cases, before the final Third Year Certificate is granted, the student must pass a test in Practical Teaching.
A course of six lectures and practical demonstrations in First Aid, covering the work for the St John Ambulance Association certificate, is being arranged for 1930. Lectures will begin as soon as examinations are finished, in January, and will be held for 11⁄2 hours twice weekly. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year students may attend, and qualify for certificate, vouchers, and medallion in appropriate years.
All members of Teachers' Classes will be expected to attend.
